Looks like it's Kaiser day on Perez Stern, but we couldn't wait to share this great email from Sam Ogren. Here's Sam keeping it real, and talking to the members in a way they can really understand.
He's not just some stuffy backpack wearing hack, y'know! He's ready to get into it. Period. And from the responses Perez has seen so far, so are the Kaiser stewards!
------
Greetings All,
The SEIU-UHW steward council is moving forward. Will you join us?
Over the past several weeks, many SAC stewards have resigned from their posts. Are you one of them?
Here's the deal y'all. Your members need stewards. And after two months of essentially pointless in-fighting, a group of your peers have stepped up. We are getting back to work; supporting our members, upholding the contract, and making your union strong again at SAC. There is a lot of good work to be done, and the more of you there are working together, the better our members are going to do. Period.
To clarify a point, if you have not signed a resignation letter, you have not resigned as a steward. It is an individual decision, and never one the council had the right to make for you. But now you need to ask yourselves; do you want your union to succeed, or do you want it to fail? Because the period of constant division in this council is over. If we aimed for anything less, we would be doing our members a disservice.
To that end, the criteria for remaining a steward (or rescinding your resignation signature) is simple; you don't rep for the union that's trying to tear yours down. It doesn't matter what you did before, but it really matters what you do next. Our members deserve a steward council that is united in it's goal to strengthen the workers' union. The union at Kaiser is SEIU-UHW (please refer to last weeks NLRB ruling if you still have any doubt).
If that enrages you, please stop reading now. But if you are ready to put the politics aside and get back to work with other stewards who feel the same way, please contact me ASAP. We've got a lot of stuff to get into, and I bet your coworkers would like you there when we get into it!!
In Solidarity,
Sam Ogren, SEIU-UHW Kaiser rep

What is Perez Stern?
SEIU staff and officers think they can hide in the dark. Already in their hostile takeover of UHW they've injured members, held boss-style captive audience meetings for staff, and refused to give us their names.
Andy Stern and his appointees love to think they're rich, famous, powerful, and accountable to no one. A member led union just doesn't fit in with their plans for stardom! They like to drive around in SUVs with tinted windows, acting like they (literally) own the place.
So if they want to be famous, let's help them! If you're an SEIU member or employee, tell Perez what the SEIU trustees and appointees are up to, and help them feel just like Paris Hilton.
If you have a story or pictures for Perez, email him at perezstern@gmail.com We promise to respect your anonymity, but we encourage you to use your real name if you can.
