Pete "is a leader and professional communicator" who was formally the assistant communications director for the D.C.based Air Line Pilots Association, best known for losing nearly 10 percent of its membership last year when US Airways pilots bolted to form an independent union. So it's good news for SEIU that Pete has experience working for a union dealing with a lot of members who want to leave, but of course, his side lost that battle!ALPA paid Pete a salary of $161,607 in 2007. That's interesting, because it's almost twice what UHW paid its communications director in 2008, ($86,000, both numbers according to the LM2's). Since it seems unlikely that anyone competent would move across the country to take a 50 percent pay cut, Perez has to assume that (if Pete is competent), he is being paid $160,000 or more to run communications at Zombie UHW. Perhaps it's actually his military intelligence experience that makes him so valuable to the trustees?
And what is UHW getting for its money? "Attempts to reach Pete Janhunan, communications director for United Health Workers West SEIU, were unsuccessful." Yes, UHW's new six-figure PR guy doesn't return calls about NUHW petitions at Watsonville Community Hospital, so they get both his name and UHW's name wrong, as well as leaving out Zombie UHW's side of the story!
