SEIU Local 888 Election Nullified
Local-Wide Election To Be Re-Run

The Election Committee carefully reviewed the post-election protest filed by Susana Segat/YOUR 888 TEAM regarding the SEIU Local 888 election and issued their decision on May 29, 2009.

A copy of the election protest and all supporting documentation is attached.

The Election Committee has determined that Bruce Boccardy/BRING BACK OUR UNION has violated Federal Election Laws and the International Constitution. The Committee has determined that the election should be set aside as null and void and that it should be re-run.

In sum, the Election Committee has determined that several of the allegations raised by YOUR 888 TEAM, specifically the first two allegations, have merit and require that the election results be nullified and that the election be re-run.

The Election Committee has decided not to investigate any of the remaining complaints since the election is being overturned on the first two charges.

Under Article 7, Section A of the Local 888 Constitution and By-Laws, any member who is not satisfied with the ruling of the Election Committee may appeal to the Local Union President within (15) days of this ruling. SEIU Local 888 President Susana Segat will then immediately forward any such appeal to SEIU International President Andrew Stern.

In the meantime, as the election has been nullified, the existing officers of Local 888 shall remain in their positions until a new election has been run and certified.

Any member who wishes to appeal the Election Committees decision may send such appeal to the Local Union Office. The deadline for submitting such appeals is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2009.

If no appeals are submitted, the Local's current Executive Board shall meet as scheduled on June 23, 2009. The Executive Board will at that time designate a new election timeline.
